Mixology trends 2016: classic is still classic. Sometimes with a… remixMartini MMM still rule: Martini, Manhattan, Mojito are “the” cocktails par excellance, and they definitely are evergreen. Martini is the 007 cocktail and it is at least in two different versions: the original Dry Martini (gin, vodka, dry vermouth, olive) and the Vesper Martini (from Vesper Lynd, the spy loved by James Bond: gin, vodka, kina Lillet, slice of lemon). You can have a lot of fun playing with the Martini concept: potato vodka or grain vodka, for a start.Meanwhile the gin market is booming and the many craft distilleries give you a giganormously wide variety of variations and nuances. And it is almost the same with vermouth: wide variety and brand new craft productions. Do you remember the Vermouth Macchia? With it you can give a Sardinia hint to your Bond cocktail! Manhattan Whiskey, sweet vermouth, angostura bitters, garnished with a cherry: again you can play with the variety of vermouths and you can go on a quest for your perfect bespoke Manhattan experimenting with Canadian whiskey, bourbon and - why not? - Irish whiskey. Mojito White rum, fresh lime juice, leaves of mint, sugar, soda water. With mojito we jump straight to summer, but again some interesting variations are at hand: as gin, rum has a lot of attention lately, with some new small interesting distilleries. If you want to go unconventional, try a Mexican mojito with tequila. If you want to italianize it, try the Mojitaly, with Fernet-Branca!
