Bushmills is the  - Irish - sponsor for the #alessipiù event with the - Irish indeed - writer Catherine Dunne, at Alessi for the launch of her new book - Italian title: 'Come Cade la Luce'. In this post we are going to tell you the story of the oldest Irish whiskey...

Bushmills: the oldest distillery in the world

The distillery in Bushmills gained the distillation patent from James I, King of England and Ireland. The current distillery dates to 1784. The site is the tiny Bushmills village in Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland. The 1608 patent makes Bushmills the oldest working whiskey (with the "e", going with the Irish...). The distillery deeply roots in the territory, which gives it its authenticity. The Bush river is the source for the water involved in the distillation process.

History, stories, pop icon

In more than 400 years, Bushmills has been involved in many stories, in many countries. In 1889, the year of the Tour Eiffel inauguration, Bushmills won the gold emdal at the Expo. Bushmills case were on the Titanic on its 1912 cursed travel. Bono Vox presented Frank Sinatra a Bushmills bottle when they met for their duet.

A different Irish Whiskey

The alembic triple  distillation gives Bushmills a superior smoothness and a velvety texture. Even the Bushmills blend (Original, Black Bush) with grain whiskey, use 100% malted barley.
