In the spotlight: Maccone Primitivo Rosato (Rosé) by Angiuli DonatoThe Angiuli Donato wine Estate is part of the Gioia del Colle Primitivo DOP (Denominazione di Origine Protetta, Protected Designation of Origin) area, Adelfia (Bari province, Puglia region). The Angiuli Donato’s productions bow has two very special strings: the Spumante Brut “ancestral method” - Vino Spumante Brut Maccone by Angiuli Donato - and the Primitivo Rosato Maccone by Angiuli Donato. The Vino Spumante Brut Maccone by Angiuli Donato is a very special Spumante (Italian sparkling wine) as it is produced according the “ancestral method”: it is the “more natural” and older way to produce sparkling wine, as the secondary fermentation (the prise de mousse) takes place in bottles with no addition of sugar and it is stopped by the yeast cell depletion. The Vino Spumante Brut Maccone rests for six months before the disgorging. The bouquet is intense, with hints of apple juice and grapefruit. The taste is fresh, with a rich and persistent finish. The Rosé wine (from French; Rosado in Portuguese and Spanish, Rosato in Italian) incorporates some of the color from the grape skins, but not enough to qualify it as a red wine. Usually a Rosé wine has a less complex yet very well balanced structure and its balanced body makes it a versatile wine. The Primitivo Rosato Maccone by Angiuli Donato is a monovarietal wine from Primitivo di Gioia del Colle grapes, the aging lasts six months in steel vats. The pink color is intense with purple reflections; the flavour is intense as well with hints of berries; the taste is soft and full round. The Primitivo Rosato Maccone is perfect with starters, soups, white meat and fresh cheese.
