Today in the spotlight a “Vertical” of Sammarco Castello dei Rampolla wines. From the Golden GlenThe Castello dei Rampolla (Rampolla’s Castle) wines, from the Santa Lucia farm in Faulle, take advantage of the perfect position of the Estate, in the Golden Glen (Conca d’Oro) on the south side of the Panzano terroir, in Chianti. The modern history of The Castello dei Rampolla wines starts in 1970, with the first “vendemmia” (the grapes harvest) in 1975.The 42 vineyards of the Estate span on a calcareous, stony ground, between 280 and 380 meters above sea level. The Castello dei Rampolla Estate adopted the biodynamic agriculture in 1994, using organic fertilizers and adopting the lunar calendar for the processings of vineyards and wine. The Sammarco is one of the jewels of the Castello dei Rampolla’s crown. A Beautiful mix: Sammarco Castello dei RampollaThe Sammarco production started in 1980.Sammarco is an IGT (Indicazione geografica tipica, defining the Super Tuscans wines) from Cabernet Sauvignon, San Giovese and Merlot grapes, with separate vinification and aging. Then the 3 different wines are blended in the “vinaggio” (they mature in different barrels of different wood and shapes and size, then the wines are subjected to the “wine-ing”, the mixing process of different wines). A further aging of six months in bottle bring us the precious Sammarco: the long process of aging is what makes Sammarco so special and so much loved. And it is again the aptitude to aging that makes a Sammarco "Vertical" such a great experience. At Enoteca Alessi you can find some of the best vintages of Sammarco.
