Leonia: the "unexpected" Spumante from Frescobaldi
Leonia: a stubborn wine - lover...
The wine is named after Leonia, the great-great-grandmother of Lamberto Frescobaldi, the current owner and manager of the Pomino Estate.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="2/3"][vc_column_text]
Leonia was awarded the gold medal at the Paris World’s Fair in 1878 for the first French wine produced in
Pomino using - for the first time in Italy - the
gravity-fed cellars.
Leonia Pomino Brut is a Spumante Bianco DOC - Metodo Classico (white sparkling wine, controlled designation of origin,
méthode champenoise).
It is mainly from Chardonnay grapes with a little part of Pinot Nero.
It has a full-bodied foam and persistent fine bubbles.
Leonia Tasting notes
Nose: bouquet of shrub flowers (hawthorn and scotch broom) with a refined cedar scent; then notes of pastry, toasted hazelnuts, fresh oregano.
Mouth: sapid and fresh, with a creamy effervescence and a pleasant finish of bitter almonds and orange rind.
Leonia Pomino Brut Spumante Bianco pairing
Leonia Spumante matches appetizers, first courses of fish, white meat and medium-aged cheese.
With a 12,5% Alcohol by Volume, it is available in 0.75 and 1.5 (Magnum) bottle format.
